Amazon leads the pack of online retailers participating in Black Friday. For many Americans, Black Friday originally meant hordes of shoppers waiting for large department stores to open the day after Thanksgiving. Subsequent newscasts often showed shoppers fighting over goods with substantial price markdowns. Retail stores still have Black Friday sales, often with “doorbuster” deals to lure shoppers. However, Amazon and other online merchants also have massive Black Friday sales followed by nearly equal epic deals during Cyber Monday.
Two years ago, Amazon introduced “Early Black Friday deals” leading up to Black Friday. Some early deals last several days, but others disappear after 24 hours or even faster. Amazon doesn’t want everyone to wait until Black Friday on November 29 or Cyber Monday on December 2 this year to start their holiday shopping or look for deals for themselves. We expect the quantity and pace of new Amazon deals will begin picking up in the last weeks of October, heading toward their peak on Black Friday. What to expect from Amazon
Amazon heavily discounts its own brand products for every major sales event and even more so for Black Friday. Look for deep cuts for Echo Dot and other smart speakers, Echo Show smart displays, Fire TVs, Fire Tablets, and their exclusive Kindle e-book readers. Amazon also offers great deals on its brands like Ring doorbells and other smart home security products, Eero home Wi-Fi systems, and Blink security cameras.
You can also expect great deals on robot vacuums, Instant Pots, laptops, headphones, 4K TVs, and soundbars. Amazon uses tabs to help you shop by product category, so also look for deals on computers and accessories, home, electronics, kitchen, cell phones and accessories, video games, cameras and photography, office products and supplies, and major appliances.
What we saw last Black Friday and Prime Day
Prime Day in July is Amazon’s version of Black Friday. Prime Day 2019 broke records, but there’s no way the leading online merchant will sit idle during the holiday shopping season. Shoppers spent $6.2 billion overall on Black Friday 2018, a 23.6% increase from 2017.
Amazon doesn’t release specific sales day dollar amounts. Amazon said Prime Day sales on July 15 and 16 exceeded the combined sales during 2018’s Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales events. Shoppers saved more than $1 billion on more than 175 million items, according to Amazon.
During the last mega-sales events, Amazon sold millions of Echo smart home products and even sold out of Echo Dots, Echo Show, and some Ring security lights with cameras. Black Friday is the single best day of the year to buy a 4K TV for the greatest selection at the lowest level prices. Laptop computers, tablets, and cameras are other big-ticket items that sell exceptionally well on Black Friday. This year will likely also see a big pickup on smartwatch deals.
