Comments made by actor Christopher Judge at The Game Awards, who threw shade on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III‘s single player campaign, have stirred a whole new controversy over the Internet.
Christopher seemed to taunt the game during his speech at TGA 2023, claiming that his notoriously long acceptance speech from TGA 2022 (when he won the Best Performance prize for his role as Kratos in God of War: Ragnarök) was longer than the campaign’s duration. While the comment he made was intended in jest, fans and attendees were in shock, and some of them even went silent since the joke Christopher made did have an impact. Here is the full quote:
I’m not going to stand up here, making long speeches. I’m going to stick to the script. No eight-minute speech like last year. But fun fact, my speech was actually longer than this year’s Call of Duty campaign.
The Call of Duty community, from the fans to some current and former developers, were quick to answer the comments by Judge.
Former Call of Duty developer Ajinkya Limaye said in a now-deleted post that the fact that “Call of Duty absolutely destroys all of the God of War games is also equally laughable”. Associate Art Director Nelson Plumey, who works at Treyarch (another CoD studio), criticized God of War’s limited engagement as well.

There were more insightful responses, too, such as that tweeted by Darcy Sandall, an engineer from Sledgehammer Games who worked on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III. She said that the franchise’s developers have heard even “worse”, but the venue and the source (an industry peer) made it particularly shocking.
Honestly, as COD developers, we’ve heard way worse. But we don’t expect it from a peer, at an event that supposed to be celebrating this years achievements in gaming. Especially with all the information that was leaked about it’s development. https://t.co/6uFg1zAgqK

Call of Duty Modern Warfare III has received huge criticism over the state of its campaign mode, with negative reviews and comments since the launch of the new installment. However, the game still sold quite well, with Activision claiming it’s registered new engagement records for the Modern Warfare trilogy. The game has just begun Season 1. At the same time, Warzone has launched the brand new Urzikstan map.
As for God of War, Kratos is coming back next week with the free roguelike DLC God of War: Ragnarök Valhalla.
